Venom Sports' Volleyball
Program |
Venom
Sports is a sports organization geared to promoting the development
and competitiveness of young athletes across multiple sports.
We participate in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), one of the
highest levels of sports competition in the country, in addition
to a number of other competitive sports leagues. The AAU is
also a member of USA Volleyball.
EDUCATION
We believe that an athlete must not only strive to achieve and
excel in the sports they play, but also academically. That is
why we require our members to maintain passing grades. The successful
blend of athletics and academics creates a more powerful and
wiser player, a Venom player. It also positions the athlete
to take advantage of college recruiting opportunities, when
the time comes, and the rigid requirements for playing at the
college level.
VENOM'S PROGRAM
Venom Sports’ volleyball program is committed to providing
quality training to all athletes age 8 - 18 who reside in the
New York metropolitan area. We strive to teach, improve and
master fundamental volleyball skills to our members. An emphasis
is placed on conditioning, developing skills, commitment, teamwork,
game and tournament experience, parent participation, and preparation
for upper level play.
Our goal is to give each Venom Sports volleyball member a competitive
sports experience that will contribute to their own physical
and psychological well being.
The program is divided into two groups.
- Venom Travel – are teams geared for
those individuals that are interested in playing at the
highest competitive level. Players of these teams have hopes
and desire to continue their volleyball playing in college.
These teams have very rigorous physical requirements and
produce the greatest results due to the teams combined level
of skill. Venom Travel teams often compete in tournaments
out of New York state.
- Venom Regional – are teams designed
for individuals who wish to learn and play competitively,
but feel that their families cannot to commit to a travel
team’s schedules and requirements. The program is
mostly geared for the younger athlete (10th grade or younger).
The Venom Regional teams will receive the same individual
based skills training as do the Venom Travel teams, but
the level and intensity will differ because of their skill
set. Most of Venom Regional competition will be among other
Venom Regional teams and at Venom Sports’ major volleyball
tournament.
COMMITMENT
Venom Sports is committed to the development of New York’s
finest volleyball players. Each year at tryouts, coaches carefully
select players who will offer the club a strong commitment to
total personal development. Attendance at practices and events
is mandatory and players must be able and willing to commit
their time and resources to the following:
- 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 age group teams will
practice twice per week for approximately four (4) hours
each week.
- 13, 14 and 15 age group teams will practice
twice per week for approximately four (4) hours each week.
Their season will begin in December and conclude in early
May.
- 16 age group teams will practice twice per
week for approximately four and one half (4.5) hours each
week. Their season will begin in December and conclude in
early May.
- 17 and 18 age group teams will practice twice
per week for approximately five (5) hours each week. Their
season will begin in December and conclude in early May.
TRAINING
Training will consist of many facets dedicated to the total
development of the player and team. The season will include
a series of player clinics given by the Head Volleyball Coach.
These clinics will standardize fundamental techniques within
the club and from team to team, creating a Venom style of play.
Practices will involve position training for setters, middle
hitters and outside hitters. All setters may be trained together
for a period of time to standardize footwork, hand position
and strategy. Each practice throughout the season will offer
a good mix of individual technique training, team systems training,
conditioning and sport education.
PLAYING TIME
Playing time at tournaments will be determined at the discretion
of the coaches. Line-up decisions will be reflective of and
consistent with the goals set for each team. An athlete’s
playing time may vary from event to event. Regular attendance,
abilities demonstrated at practice, and sustained personal progress
are among the many factors that determine playing time. Each
player will receive equal training time at practice.
