Congratulations to our athletes that participated in Sunday’s USA Track & Field Metropolitan Championship. Although they competed in temperatures that were over 96 degrees, they hung in there and did their best.
The standout athletes of the meet were Cruz & Joanna for silver medal winnings and for setting two new club records.
Isaiah Kamara (age 6) ran the 200M dash with a time of 1:22.30, placing 7th. He also competed in the 100M dash (time and place will be posted late).
Cruz Vernon (age 5) placed 2nd and set a new outdoor Sub-Bantam Boys (SBB) club record in the 800M, with a time of 3:34.91, dropping a little over 1 second off of his previous best of 3:36.00. He also ran the 200M (taking 6th place) posting a time of 45.06 and the 400M (taking 4th place) in a time of 1:44.50.
Joanna Smith (age 17) placed 4th and set a new outdoor Young Woman (YW) club record in the Long Jump, with a distance of 14’ 10”. She also ran the 400M in a time of 1:00.23 (placing 2nd), the 200M in a time of 26.03 (placing 3rd) and the 100M, which she placed 4th (the time will be posted later).
Both Cruz & Joanna qualified to advance to the USATF Region 1 Junior Olympics Outdoor Championship, which will be held at Ichan Stadium, Randall’s Island, NY on July 11-13. Please join me in wishing them success.
